Warmer days are fast approaching, which means the annual ‘spring forward’ time change is on the horizon.
At 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 10, clocks will move ahead one hour (to 3 a.m.) to begin Daylight Saving Time for the 2024 calendar year. The time change will remain in effect until Daylight Saving Time ends and clocks ‘fall back’ an hour on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Does Daylight Saving Time Apply to My Area?
Nearly every state in the U.S. and Canada observes Daylight Saving Time. However, Hawaii and certain parts of Arizona are excluded. Several other countries, including Mexico, much of Europe and the United Kingdom, follow similar spring-to-fall time change schedules based on locale.
Will My Timer Controls Update Automatically?
Many popular Intermatic controls, including the ASCEND®, ARISTA®, ST01 and EJ600, will adjust automatically to the time change. However, mechanical timer controls and select electronic controls may need to be adjusted manually.
Use the start of Daylight Saving Time to confirm the time on devices, verify time schedules and change batteries (if needed). This will ensure lights and appliances stay on when they’re supposed to and keep you on schedule heading into spring.
What Will Happen to Daylight Saving Time in the Future?
Although legislators have proposed eliminating the annual time change in recent years, a bill has not been passed by Congress and signed into law. Because of this, the current Daylight Saving Time schedule will remain in effect until further notice. If there are new developments, we’ll be sure to update our customers so that timer schedules can stay up to date.
